The premise
Tyler’s father has walked out on his stepmother Josie for a woman of twenty-four, and Tyler, 22, heads home for the weekend to help her through the worst of it. Dad Left My Step-Mom is built on that one sympathetic visit. Josie Villanueva plays the stepmother, and Candy tags the series Cuck, Mother and Taboo. It appeared on Candy in the second half of October.
What Josie says
The first episode is mostly one long, bitter conversation. Josie tells him his father left her for a younger woman, then asks him to be honest about whether she looks old. He answers that she is his stepmom; she replies that she did twelve years of yoga and his father never noticed, and adds that Tyler is noticing. At some point she says “oops” and asks him to tie her back up. When he points out that this is wrong, she asks whether that is the reason his hand is shaking. He promises to come by on Sunday to talk, she says she will be keeping busy, and her last request is that he stays the whole weekend, because she does not want to sleep alone in that bed.
It is all talk and implication. The opener shows no nudity.
Sunday and after
Registering with Candy opens the second episode, which we have not seen, and three more sit behind tokens. We are holding off on a rating until we have seen more than the opener.
Cost of the full run
Twelve tokens times three locked episodes: 36.
Stepmothers on this site
My Stepmom’s Weekend is the nearest relative, a stepmother and a weekend alone, though there the setting is playful. House Rules puts a stepmother in charge instead of in mourning. Josie Villanueva’s two older series, I Dated My Best Friend Mom and Bachelor Party with My Fiancée’s Mother, both sit at 4.0 or higher in our catalogue.
Reading so far
The wounded-stepmother angle gives the premise more feeling than most, and Josie’s lines about being overlooked for twelve years are the best of the opener. A reasonable pick if you want drama before heat.
