The set-up
A hospital floor at night, a new nurse on the last shift of her probation, and two people deciding her future: a head nurse who wants her fired and a chief of surgery who cannot stop looking at her. Under the Chief puts Harriet Seagrave back in the role she plays best on Candy, the self-conscious newcomer who cannot believe the attention is real. It is one of the series Candy released after our September count.
The opening night
Episode one is narrated through her nerves. The operating theatres wind down, the floor goes quiet, and the head nurse predicts the new girl will not last until morning. The chief’s answer is to claim her for the night himself, in the only quiet room on the floor. Her scrubs are a size too small, she apologises for it, and he tells her they look perfect. When the head nurse, Vanessa, reminds him of a deadline for the hospital board, he cancels it and asks not to be disturbed, leaving her outside in disbelief. The episode stops on a line that hands the decision to Harriet.
It is suggestive throughout and keeps nudity off screen.
Beyond episode one
Episode two is still free but now needs a Candy account, so we only know it from the synopsis: the training gets very hands-on while the head nurse waits at the door. The three paid episodes follow at the standard price. We have not given the series stars or a score yet.
Tokens to the end
Thirty-six: twelve for each locked episode.
Compared with Under the Boss
Fans of Under the Boss will recognise the structure immediately: an anxious newcomer, a powerful man who chooses her, and a jealous colleague who becomes the obstacle. The hospital swaps the office comedy for a tenser night-shift mood. Harriet also leads Every Wife on Candy Lane, where she is the confident one.
First impressions
A familiar formula done with conviction, and a lead whose insecurity makes the premise more interesting than the usual instant attraction. If you liked her office series, this is the obvious next unlock.
