The premise
Everyone at the family dinner laughs when Kate says she trusts her husband so much she would hand him a hall pass, because he would never use it. Her mother, Margot, is the only one who does not laugh. Ten minutes later she has Dan alone in the kitchen. My Mother-In-Law Wants To Be My Hall Pass leads with Margot Vey, her second new series within days, and Candy tags it Milf.
In the kitchen
The first episode is the kitchen scene, played at a whisper while the family sits in the next room. Margot asks whether Dan heard what his wife said; he says Kate was kidding. Margot says she was not. Pressed on whether he would use the pass, he says no, and she remarks that nobody has ever said no that fast. When Kate calls through to ask what they are whispering about and asks for coffee, Margot answers that Dan is making it, then tells him his heart is racing and that his wife thinks he is a saint. He says he is not a saint, only married. She mentions a book club the next evening from seven to ten and closes by telling him to see whether he can say no to her.
The whole opener is that one conversation, and nothing explicit happens in it.
Beyond the dinner table
Episode two opens once you register with Candy and three paid episodes complete the season. Nothing on this page covers them; we will rate the series after watching more.
Total tokens
The paid half costs 36 tokens.
Margot Vey and the family
In Couples Therapy With Margot Vey she is the outsider who walks into someone’s marriage; here she is already inside the family, which makes the tension closer to home. Her older series are mostly mothers of someone’s fiancée or friend: My Bachelor Gift was My Fiancée’s Mom and My Best Friend’s Mom Has One Rule each score 3.0 for us.
First take
A funny, well-built opening that gets its set-up from a single line of dinner banter. It is also the most economical of Margot’s recent titles, with all the pressure in one room.
